Welly Yang is an actor, playwright, producer, and singer. He has starred in the Broadway shows Miss Saigon and Aladdin. Yang has also appeared in numerous television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, As the World Turns, National Geographic Explorer and Ghostwriter. He is the founder and artistic director of Second Generation, an Asian American non-profit theater company. He is active in the Taiwanese American community and works closely with the Taiwanese United Fund (TUF). He received the first TAP Taiwanese American Achievement Award for Pioneer in Cultural Arts in 2005.

Finding Home is a musical concert tracing the story of his parents, which premiered at UCLA's Royce Hall in 2005 and went on to play at Taiwan's National Concert Hall and Vancouver's Explorasian Festival in 2006. In his work with Second Generation, Yang founded the "Concert of Excellence" to celebrate the achievements of Asian Americans in entertainment. Now presented as the Asian Excellence Awards, the awards show is the only nationally televised event celebrating significant Asian and Asian American achievements in entertainment, the arts and other disciplines that have had a profound impact on American culture. He married Dina Morishita, a fellow theatre actor in July 2005. Yang is a native of New York. He graduated from the Lawrenceville School in 1990 and Columbia University in 1994.
